WTH is A Canon Event?

This four day creative retreat is designed to be both an inspiring creative reset and a connective experience in the heart of Houston, Texas. Our two shoot days are both highly curated and also adaptable to the moment for about 11 hours of content in total. We’ve been craving depth and realness in ticketed content creation events so we’re bringing an entire cast of models to play unique characters in an entire intimate wedding timeline at Chateau Nouvelle — that YOU get to weigh in on. 

On top of our complex content days, you can also expect relaxing artistic activities throughout the week that will inspire play and experimentation to cleanse your creative palate.

We’re only offering 10 seats to keep the group intimate – women only, age 21+.

What makes this retreat different from every other wedding content retreat?

COLLABORATION.

Typically content retreats in our industry have a basic timeline, rigid expectations and one-sided production. 

We are bringing something new. We aren’t planning an isolated content day for you to capture. Rather, we’re setting the table for a rich, complex creative narrative that wedding days should feel like. We invite you to not just to recharge, experiment and build your visual portfolio but to also participate in building that story with us.

A Canon Event welcomes you to be a screenwriter with us. You play an essential role in this story and we want your perspective. 

One month before our retreat we’ll hop on a zoom call with all of you to ask for your music recs for the week’s playlist, you’ll vote on which creative activities you’d like to do, and give us feedback on specific scenes you’d like to see during the full 9-hour wedding day. We’ll bring alternative options for the wedding timeline to the group that we want you to weigh in on & help us do some scene writing.

Our goal for the big 9-hour shoot is to facilitate realistic and unique moments that will feel akin to a real wedding day. We’ll set the stage, bring the cast, and secure the goods.

You bring your ideas and perspectives to the pre-retreat zoom call and we’ll capture the magic together in June. 

What’s included?

  • Small Intimate Group of Wedding Professionals — only 10 seats available.

  • Access to a private facebook group for attendees to best prepare for the retreat.

  • Zoom Screenwriting meeting with all attendees pre-retreat.

  • Accommodation included in a beautiful, spacious AirBnb in Houston, Texas. 

  • Two guided morning yoga classes at the AirBnb plus attendee selected creative activities.  

  • All meals covered plus a Private-Chef welcome dinner with Chef Mary Bass.

  • 2 Attendee selected creative & recharging activities.

  • A full 9-hour art directed wedding day with multiple scenes, alternative timelines, luxury sculptural florals, unique attire styling, and a full intimate wedding cast ie: bride, groom, parent figures, wedding guests, etc. at Chateau Nouvelle. (We’ve got the entire Chateau to ourselves the whole time.)

  • A 2-hour sunset pool shoot with stunning views of downtown Houston at La Colombe d’Or.

  • (Travel and transportation is not included.)

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Sarah Curfman

Wedding Photographer Based in Columbia, SC

Shooting Style: CINEMATIC, ROMANTIC & DOCUMENTARY

Sarah has run Sarah Elizabeth Photography since 2019 and has established herself as a luxury wedding photographer in South Carolina. She loves the romantic, cinematic, storytelling aspects that allow for moments to be remembered just as they were. Sarah loves being able to assist with all things weddings, as she also spends time as a bridal stylist. Sarah also loves working alongside other creatives, through events and marketing projects, and loves working on collaboration projects with other creatives and photographers.

Coffee Order: French press black OR iced lavender latte with oat milk.

Anna Bullock

Editorial Photographer & Brand Designer Based in Greenville, SC

Shooting Style: EDITORIAL, FLASH HEAVY, ORGANIC, & PHOTO JOURNALISTIC

Anna runs Anna Katherine Creative, a full-service creative agency for creatives where she does everything from photography to brand identities to website design since 2020. She places a huge emphasis on art direction and deep storytelling as a key component to all of her creative processes. You can usually find her crafting creative shoots, planning local creative community events, or designing unique brand identities for fellow creatives & photographers. 

Coffee Order: Strong and black – but not lava hot.

  • We’ll kick off our retreat week with a yummy private chef dinner at our AirBnb with chill girly wine night and a cozy movie night.

    4pm – Check In

    7pm – Private Chef Dinner

    Post Dinner – A chill movie night, maybe a cheesy icebreaker or two.

  • Stretch out from yesterday with another morning yoga session at the AirBnb, a big brunch with mimosas, free time in the afternoon and an early private chef dinner before we head out to our final scene – the editorial rooftop pool party overlooking downtown Houston.

    8am – Guided yoga at the AirBnb

    10am – Big ol’ Brunch

    11am – Creative Activity

    1pm - Lunch at the AirBnb

    3pm - Creative Activity + Round Table Q&A

    4:30pm – Early Dinner at the AirBnb

    8pm -10pm – Rooftop Pool Photoshoot @ La Colombe d’Or

  • This will be a 12-9pm (YEP, that’s nine whole hours— Anna confirmed with finger counting), high-energy, flow state chasing kinda day as we bring our story to life. We’ll take breaks as needed but be prepared to fill up all your SD cards. We’ll end the night with a casual group dinner on site and a well deserved treat.

    9am – Self-Serve Breakfast

    11am – Head to Venue

    12-9pm – Wedding Experience shoot at Chateau Nouvelle (lunch and dinner on site)

  • We’ll wrap up our time together with a relaxing morning.

    8am – Guided yoga at the AirBnb & Breakfast

    11am – Check Out
